Autoantibodies against the zinc transporter specific to pancreatic islets – commonly referred to as ZnT8 autoantibodies – are the most recently discovered immunological markers used in the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. These autoantibodies complete the panel of essential tests for detecting pancreatic autoimmune processes and are particularly useful in cases where classical markers (ICA, GAD, IA2, IAA) are absent.
